Test Event Zen Maker Academy – Fall 2019 14-Week Program – Wednesdays After School
January 17 @ 3:00 pm - February 7 @ 4:30 pm
Zen Maker Academy After School Program
This advanced maker tech program is intended for ages 10 to 15 years old that have either taken one of our Zen Maker Camps or Zen Maker Club after school programs or who have a similar experience level or enthusiasm and interest. There is a maximum of 10 participants.
The focus of the Zen Maker Academy program is gaining skills in electronics, engineering, mathematics, 3D design and 3D printing, coding and art, design and usability and some introductory entrepreneurship and applying these skills into both beginning and advanced maker projects.
We have an experienced team of industry instructors leading the program and an instructor to student ratio of no more than one instructor for every eight kids.
General supplies are included in the program (e.g. 3D printing filament, laser cutting materials, basic shop supplies). There may be some extra electronics costs for more expensive components we need to order for projects that the participants get to take home with them (maximum $45 per semester per participant). In this case, parents will be notified and funds collected.
The curriculum for this program is more flexible than our Zen Maker Club after school programs in schools that has more structured curriculum. In the Zen Maker Academy After School Program we adapt to the participants in the program and leverage the equipment we have at Zen Maker Lab. Participants and parents therefore should be comfortable with this approach. Feedback is welcome throughout the program.
Zachary Anderson will once again be our lead instructor. He is great with kids and infuses science and engineering concepts within the program material. There will be additional guest instructors for parts of the program (e.g. for design). The projects that participants work on will be determined by the instructor and the participants in the first couple of sessions.
Our instructors are all very experienced, many with undergrad and grad engineering and business degrees.
