Kids & Youth Programs - Helping create innovators
Zen Maker Academy - Before & After School, Daytime and Weekend
Zen Maker Academy
Zen Maker Lab is proud to offer an advanced academy program for kids 8-15 at our headquarters in beautiful North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Our Zen Maker Academy has a daytime program on Mondays from 12:00 to 3:00 pm, an after school program on Mondays from 4 to 6 pm, on Wednesdays from 4 to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from noon to 3 pm and Sundays from 10 am to 1 pm. The programs start the week of Sept 25th and go for 12 weeks until the week of December 11th (Dec. 18th for the Monday programs since there are no sessions for the Monday program on Monday, Oct 9th due to Thanksgiving).
In January, 2018, we will also be offering a before school program. We will also have a van drop off and pick up service to take kids from Zen Maker Lab to schools in the morning and from schools to Zen Maker Lab in the afternoons. This is not available for the fall, 2017 programs.
This is a great program for children and youth that want to build further on the skills learned from our Zen Maker Club, Spring and Summer camps and other programs.
Session sizes are kept to a maximum of eight participants per instructor to ensure everyone gets a lot of individual attention.
This program cover a variety of maker topics and students will enjoy real life access to highly specialized equipment and experienced industry instructors at our leading edge maker lab facility – aimed at stimulating tomorrow’s digital creators.
Our programs at our maker lab in North Vancouver includes access to 3D printers (ABS and PLA filament printers and a powder printer), scanners, 3D design software, laser cutters, CNC mills & lathes, electronics benches, large format printing, vinyl cutters, laminators, AR/VR headsets and more.
With the Zen Maker Lab digital platform, your child can continue his or her learning 24x7
One of the benefits of taking a Zen Maker Lab program is that you have free access for one year to our digital platform where you can access project files (e.g. laser cutting and 3D design files) and where you can join our online forum and ask questions of your fellow makers as well as our staff. You can log in from the Community tab on the home page or directly here.
If you or your child has taken one of our programs in the past and would like access our our digital platform, please contact us.
Teachers can access helpful resources to help integrate maker projects in their classes and administrators can get tips on setting up a maker lab in our Educators Forum. We are accepting a limited number of beta users for this maker online for educators. If you or your school would like to participate, please contact us.

Zen Maker Camps
Spring Break Camps
Our spring break camps at Zen Maker Lab are memorable, educational and best of all, a lot of fun!
For kids that are coming to Zen Maker Lab for their first time, the camp will be a "sampler" covering an introduction to art and sketching, 3D design and 3D printing, coding, Minecraft and 3D printing, bridge building, metal works, electronics, Arduino and more.
We have both a Week 1 - Maker Sampler and a Week 2 - Maker Sampler with different content so you can register your child in one week or both. The weeks are independent of each other so you don't have to take Week 1 in order to take Week 2. This year in addition to our early bird tickets, we are offering early, early bird tickets to save even more for those that like to plan ahead!
For kids that have already taken this starter maker camp before, we will get them focused on a more advanced maker project, such as a drawbot (a programmable robot that draws), an eggbot (a robot controlled by code that draws easter egg designs), a robotic arm, a mini-drone or a wearable tech fashion project. Projects for Spring, 2018 will be announced shortly.
This Summer, Zen Maker Lab, will once again be hosting a number of unique maker camps where kids will learn about science, technology, engineering, art and math!
For the last three years, our camps have sold out and we anticipate the same for summer, 2018 so best not to wait until the last minute to register. In addition to early bird discounts, you can save even more by getting an early, early bird ticket!
From art, 3D design and printing, to electronics and Python coding with Raspberry Pi, from Minecraft mods, and robotics to an engineering project, your kids will be introduced or expand their existing skills in this important area. No experience necessary! It's a great way for your child to have fun while learning some really useful skills, helping prepare them for the future.
In 2018, we will be adding some more Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) content. We will also be introducing some wearable technology using flextronics! Finally we will have a new aquafarm from our partner Purity Aqua Farms. We have lots of new equipment since last year as well including the Carvey, more 3D printers and more.
Registration will open soon. Stay tuned!
