We have a diverse team of experienced industry people at Zen Maker Lab. We are educators, technologists, engineers, artists, coders - together we offer a multidisciplinary approach to science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) programs and services.

Cyri Jones

Cyri is the founder and chief bottle washer at Zen Maker Lab. He has over 20 years of business experience specializing in marketing, information technology, entrepreneurship & project management. He is a faculty member at Capilano University and BCIT. He has a B.Sc. from the University of Guelph and an MBA from UBC.

Fardin Barekat

Fardin is our lead engineer at Zen Maker Lab. He runs the services side of Zen Maker Lab including 3D design and prototyping services and 3D printing. He is also an instructor in our Zen Maker Lab Academy program. Fardin is an electrical engineer, a graduate of the University of British Columbia.

Kelly Nichols

Educational consultant and STEAM facilitator focusing on initiatives and projects related to 21st century teaching.  With a Bachelors of Education degree and a Masters of Educational Technology candidate, she provides expertise on best practices in educational technology, information literacy, and accessible education.

Tom Dowad

Tom is the founder of Before Technology Inc. He is Zen Maker Lab's electronics guru and is always cooking up some cool maker tech projects.

Matthew Ng Shun

Matthew is our program instructor and training lead. He is a recent graduate from BCIT's Mechatronics program. You will see him making a lot of cool gadgets and robots at Zen Maker Lab.

Cathy Brydon

Cathy is our metal work and jewelry instructor and has been popular with the kids at our Zen Maker Camps. She is a marketing and communications specialist with a BBA (Marketing) from Simon Fraser University.

Kimball Anderson

Kimball is our resident maker guru. He has a mechatronics and materials science background. He is the lead engineer working on flextronics with one of the companies resident at Zen Maker Lab. He helps us with maker project kit development and is our go to guy for tough technical questions. He has also been an instructor at a number of our camps and other programs.

Steve Swift

Steve Swift is the CEO of SOC Robotics and has office and workshop space at Zen Maker Lab.  Steve is working on some sophisticated robotics and AR projects. He is a Physics grad from UBC and has extensive industry experience. He is our go to guy when there is a difficult technical or business challenge. He had generously done many demonstrations during our kids camps and Zen Maker Academy. He is also on our maker tech project kit development team.

Jason Madar

Jason Madar is our coding and mobile development guru. He is a faculty member at Langara College and Capilano University and is the founder of an innovative 3D coding platform, Jason has been an instructor at our summer camps and is an instructor in our Zen Maker Lab Academy. Jason was the former CTO of Vandrico, one of the companies that used to have office space at Zen Launchpad upstairs. He has a M.Sc. in Computer Science from UBC.

Arian Rahimian

Arian Rahimian is an animator and graphic designer.He has graduate from Vancouver Film School in animation, 3D modeling, and visual effects. He has been working in professional industry for over 5 years and worked in different areas such as game industry, advertisement and graphic design.  As a motivated and creative artist his priority is being educationally updated. He believes to create an outstanding art piece regardless of the medium whether it's a graphic design or animation  you have to face the fears and create what you believe in. As Walt Disney said quote "First, think. Second, believe. Third, dream. And finally, dare".

Nathan Dolton

Nathan has been with Zen Maker Lab since the beginning and he is the go to guy for difficult hardware and software questions. Nathan runs our 3D printer repair service and is on our maker project kit development team. He seems to always be our articulate media guy when the press comes here whether it's Microsoft or YTV looking for some technology insights.
